Privacy

Your inner life stays yours.

Stoics is built to work without knowing who you are. This page explains, plainly, what that means for your data.

Last updated: 24 July 2026Applies to the Stoics iPhone app and stoics.app
The short version

No account. No server. What you write — intentions, pauses, reviews, notes — is stored only on your device and is never sent to us or anyone else. Our analytics can count taps; they never read your words.

IWhat we collect

As little as possible. Stoics has no sign-up, no login, and no user profile. We do not collect your name, email, contacts, location, or the content of anything you write. In Apple's terms, the app is “Data Not Collected.”

The app does not contain third-party advertising or tracking SDKs, and it does not build an advertising profile of you.

IIWhat stays on your device

Everything you create lives in a private database on your iPhone (shared only with the app's own widgets and share extension, through Apple's app-group storage). It is not uploaded anywhere. This includes:

  • Daily entries — intentions, obstacles, and your morning and evening reviews
  • Pauses you capture, and how you resolved them
  • Control exercises, habits and check-ins, experiments, and focus sessions
  • Notes and highlights from the notebook and the library
  • Your settings and preferences

Because there is no server copy, we cannot see, recover, or restore this data. If you delete the app or your data, it is gone.

IIIPurchases & Apple

Premium is an auto-renewable subscription sold through Apple's App Store. Apple — not us — processes your payment and manages billing. We never see your card details. The app receives only your entitlement status (whether Premium is active) from Apple's StoreKit, on your device.

Apple's own privacy policy governs the information Apple collects to run the App Store and process payments.

IVNotifications & Face ID

Notifications (your morning and evening anchors, pause timers, and habit nudges) are scheduled locally on your device by iOS. They are not sent from a server, and no push tokens or delivery data are collected by us.

Face ID is optional. If you turn on the app lock, iOS performs the check on-device using Apple's authentication; your biometric data never leaves your phone and is never available to the app or to us.

VOn-device audio

The library's “Listen” feature generates speech entirely on your device. The text you listen to is not transmitted for processing, and no audio is uploaded. If a neural voice isn't available, the app falls back to Apple's built-in system voice, which also runs on-device.

VIThe website

stoics.app is a simple marketing and support site. We keep it light: it does not require an account, and we avoid invasive tracking. Any standard, privacy-respecting analytics we use count page visits in aggregate and never identify you. Links out to third parties (for example, the “Worth your hour” recommendations) take you to those services, which have their own policies.

VIIYour control

You are always in charge of your data. From Settings inside the app you can:

  • Export everything as a JSON file, to keep or move as you wish
  • Delete all your data permanently, in one step — with no server copy left behind

You can also manage or cancel your subscription at any time in the App Store, and turn notifications on or off in iOS Settings › Notifications.

VIIIChildren

Stoics is intended for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13 (or the minimum age in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal data from children — and, as described above, we do not collect personal data from anyone.

IXChanges & contact

If this policy changes, we'll update the date at the top of this page and, for material changes, note them in the app or on this site. Questions about privacy are welcome at support@stoics.app.
